Kabaka Foundation Donates 20 Laptops in Support of 1S1L Initiative
The Kabaka Foundation Ghana, under the leadership of Nana Owiredu Wadie I, Nkosuohene of Kwahu Nkwatia, has contributed 20 laptops, laptop bags and 26 solar power banks to support the VC’s digitalisation drive.
In addition to this generous donation, he has pledged to provide scholarships for about five to ten students annually, as part of his philanthropic efforts towards the University.
This welcoming gesture was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo on behalf of UG Management during a brief ceremony held at the New Council Chamber.
Nana Owiredu Wadie I, Chairman of the Kabaka Foundation, expressed fulfilment in supporting the One Student One Laptop Initiative (1S1L) to improve the student experience through digitalisation.
“We believe our support towards the initiative would make a difference in the lives of the University of Ghana students,” he stated.
Nana Owiredu Wadie I also mentioned that the initiative would help achieve UN Sustainable Development Goal 4, which is on achieving Quality Education.
He concluded by assuring Management of his willingness and readiness to do more to support the University.
In receiving the items, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, expressed gratitude to Nana Owiredu Wadie I and the Kabaka Foundation for the massive show of love to brilliant but needy students in the University through supporting the One Student One Laptop initiative.
She disclosed that in addition to the 20 laptops, the University has received a total of 520 laptops.
The Vice-Chancellor also seized the opportunity to outline some components of the ‘One Student One Laptop’ initiative, which include providing free laptops for needy students, partnering with companies to establish a laptop assembling plant and equipping the computer laboratories on campus.
Prof. Amfo echoed the donation's positive impact on student education and expressed hope for future collaborations.
Also present at the ceremony were Mrs. Mavis Osafo Adu, Ms. Victoria Anim and Ms. Agnes Baidoo, all Assistant Registrar’s of the Public Affairs Directorate and staff of Kabaka Construction and Investment Limited.
