UG and Reroy Cable Forge Partnership to Empower Students with Industry Experience
The University of Ghana and Reroy Cable, a prominent electrical cable manufacturer in Africa, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to launch an exciting internship programme.
This initiative offers engineering students from the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS) an opportunity to nurture their skills in the electrical manufacturing sector and invaluable real-world experience. The internship programme is a significant step towards bridging the gap between academia and industry and practical knowledge in the field of electrical engineering and manufacturing.
The MoU was signed on behalf of the University by Prof. Gordon A. Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), and Mr. Joe Jackson, the Board Chair of Reroy Cable.
Speaking about the collaboration, Prof. Awandare remarked, "We are happy to partner with Reroy Cable, a leading name in Africa's electrical manufacturing sector. This initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing our students with a well-rounded education that includes practical experience.
“We believe this partnership will empower our students and prepare them for successful careers in this ever-evolving industry." Prof. Awandare added.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor encouraged students of CBAS, particularly the School of Engineering Sciences to take advantage of the opportunities the programme presents. He noted that “the programme will provide value, prepare them for the job market, and make them more employable.”
For his part, the Board Chair of Reroy Cable, Mr. Joe Jackson, reaffirmed the purpose of the collaboration. He said, "At Reroy Cable, we have always prioritised innovation and excellence in our field. Through our collaboration with the University of Ghana, we aim to contribute to the development of the next generation of industry leaders. We look forward to welcoming the students into our organisation and providing them with mentorship and the chance to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting."
He added that the internship programme would help prepare students for the job market and give Reroy Cable access to people who are well suited and well trained for their industry. He expressed the company’s commitment to working with the University of Ghana.
The partnership between the University and Reroy Cable represents a significant stride in aligning academic institutions with industry leaders and sets the stage for a mutually beneficial relationship that promises to enhance educational experiences and contribute to the growth and development of the electrical manufacturing sector in Africa.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Professor Boateng Onwona‐Agyeman, Provost of the College and Basic and Applied Sciences, Prof. David Dodoo-Arhin, Director of the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST), Ing. Prof. Elsie Effah Kaufmann, Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences, Catherine Affran, Executive Secretary to the CEO of Reroy Cable as well as some Heads of Department and Ms. Victoria Animwaa Anim, Assistant Registrar, Public Affairs Directorate.
